Long delays at Promachonas border crossing; Serbs trapped at border allowed through

Newsroom

There were delays and long lines of cars on both sides of the Greek-Bulgarian border at the Promachonas border crossing on Monday, due to heavy traffic but also a large number of Serb tourists that were "caught out" by the entry ban for Serbs imposed at 6:00 on Monday morning.

Sample tests on travellers for Covid-19, a large number of tourists, passport controls and the fact that Promachonas is currently the only overland border crossing that is open for tourist traffic added to delays.

Many Serb tourists that had rushed to the border on Sunday night in order to beat the entry ban starting on Monday morning became trapped but were finally allowed through. Border authorities stressed, however, that this was a temporary measure and that the ban on Serbs now fully applies, due to an increase in Covid-19 cases in Serbia.
