MIgrants trafficking ring dismantled; three arrests
NewsroomAt least 60 migrants and refugees that were going to be transferred to Italy with a sailing boat that had set sail from Finikounta, were located on Saturday at a remote area in the Glyfa, Pylos, Messinia prefecture, at a coast guard's coordinated operaton.
Three foreign nationals, allegedly the traffickers, that had disembarked from their cars some of the migrants were arrested. Two of them, aged 41 and 45, were located in two separate vehicles and the third one a 41-year-old in a closed-type van.
Pylos port authorities that are conducting the investigation, seized the vehicles, the sailing boat, a tender boat, cash and other travel documents .
The specific criminal organisation leased vessels using fake or stolen documents to illegally transfer migrants and refugees to the Italian coasts.
