No exploratory talks as long as the Oruc Reis is in the Greek continental shelf, Gerapetritis says

Minister of State George Gerapetritis on Tuesday presented the main thrust of Greek actions in response to Turkey's provocations, in a radio interview on "Parapolitika 90.1 FM". He also announced new legislation relating to Golden Dawn.

As he said, it was difficult to understand what was driving the intentions of the Turkish president, but it was now becoming apparent and was understood by both European and international leaders around the world that Turkey pursues a specious policy and is actually opposed to holding exploratory talks.

"The side that seeks to resolve the issue of maritime zones on the basis of international law is Greece, whereas Turkey is the side trying to establish a status quo using violence and threats," he remarked.

Gerapetritis then outlined Athens' response, saying:

Firstly, that the Hellenic Republic was not going to resume exploratory talks with Turkey as long as the Oruc Reis was sailing in the area escorted by warships, adding that Greece will not engage in a discussion held under an indirect threat of violence and blackmail.

Secondly, he said the issue will be raised emphatically at the European Council on Thursday and Friday.

Thirdly, he added, "Greece remains faithful to its basic doctrine, a solution based on international law. It will launch all those mechanisms, which will ensure its sovereign rights in all fora and international mechanisms. The only result of Turkey's actions is to make it more isolated, while proving who is a troublemaker in the wider region."
