US Election-Three expatriates answer: Why Biden is better than Trump?

Τίμος Φακαλής

Philip Tsiaras, one of the most important Greek-American artists, a few days before the elections close sees Biden as the only solution for the US as does Periklis Mazarakis, CEO of Trispan, a private equity firm in New York at 600 million Antonis Zavaliagos is a professor in the Department of Materials Science at Drexel University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Keeping all three close and inseparable ties with Greece, they remind us that Biden remains a supporter of Greece for more than 40 years in the Senate and the White House, unlike Trump, who has close ties with Erdogan .

They believe that a Biden victory will mean a return to normalcy and will help the United States regain both its credibility and its sovereignty at the international level, while pursuing policies that will make a difference for the United States and the world as a whole. They agree that Biden can unite the Americans and work with the opposition, unlike Trump, whose agenda is divisive. Having each independent and successful careers in the US, they predict that the Democratic candidate will handle the next 4 years better by fighting the pandemic with science and preparing for the development of a vaccine that will help eradicate the disease.

Philip Tsiaras: Biden as Mitsotakis

Biden is to Trump as Mitsotakis was to Tsipras. There is no debate whatsoever as to who is the better candidate, It’s Biden leading the world back to normalcy, dignity and unity, and Mitsotakis leading Greece into a much better future.

says Philip Tsiaras, one of the most important Greek-American artists, to ethnos.gr, He was born in New Hampshire, in New England, but his development was not commensurate with the conservative "Yankees" who grew up with him. Poet, honored by The American Academy Award for Poetry, but who conquered the contemporary art scene - you can find his artworks even in the Metropolitan Museum. Tsiaras origins are from the Grevena, protegee to international artist Lukas Samaras and fellow classmate at Amherst College of Primeministers’ Antonis Samaras and George Papandreou, Philip Tsiaras estimates that the Americans will vote for Biden because the alternative is 4 more years of an insane, dangerous, narcissistic, Trump, with one finger on the nuclear button and the other combing his ridiculous hair!

Philip Tsiaras

“Trump loves and admires the worst leaders in the world”

Using a great deal of black humor, the award-winning artist explains why people should vote for Biden: "Donald Trump has all the characteristics of a gangster or dictator, he loves and admires the worst leaders in the world, including Erdogan, Kim Jong- un, Putin, and Rodrigo Duterte. If he could, he would silence journalists, bankrupt the US Treasury and send women back to the darkest times of the misogynist 1950’s.

Biden by contrast is a solid, empathetic, champion of the middle class, with 40 years of experience on the geopolitical scene and in domestic politics. He is known to be excellent communicator, and can reach across and legislate with the opposition party. Biden will be a unifier where Trump’s agenda is to divide Americans.

But what can people expect from a Democratic nominee victory?

First, the world will breathe sigh of relief that Trump is gone, says Philip Tsiaras, and with tongue and cheek says: “The Queen of England will dance all night, Trudeau and the Canadians will send up fireworks, the Mexicans will beat Trump Pinatas, Macron will ask for a National parade, Angela Merkle will offer free beer for all Germans for a day!”

In other words, every educated person everywhere will know that a danger to the World has been neutralized. Only the Russians will wear black!  Biden will then begin the long process of getting America back to the country of exceptionalism.”

In reality says Tsiaras, “the darker Trump would want to send blacks back to Africa, keep women in their homes, Hispanics in cages at the border, Muslims banned permanently from the US, and guns proliferating everywhere. Biden by contrast is a humanist and a candidate of light. He is pro woman, pro-choice, pro-immigration, pro Black and Hispanic, pro real America, embracing both the Red and the Blue States, and their values.

Americans are waiting to hear the truth from Biden

According to Tsiaras, Biden will quell the growing spread of white supremacy, anti-Semitism and anti-immigration policies created by Trump. Most importantly, however, “Biden will tell the Truth, something Americans are desperate to hear, and end the terrible discrediting of good  journalism - as fake news. On the international front, Biden will seek to repair damaged relations with its European allies, Canada and Mexico.”

Continuing with enthusiasm, Tsiaras says, “Without question Biden has to work with the scientists to crush the Corona virus which has crippled the world, but in particular the US, where Trump completely failed to control the virus, while lying to the country about the seriousness of the pandemic.”

“In addition, Biden will need to undo much of the damage created by Trump including: addressing the devastating reality of Climate Change and fossil fuel emissions, restoring clean air and water regulations, repairing the fragile US infrastructure, diminishing unemployment numbers, and revising Campaign Reform—the insanity of American political campaigns that require a candidate to have billions of dollars in order to win an election.”

Trump never supported Greece

Regarding the Greek reality of the outcome of the elections, the distinguished Greek-American artist reminds us that “Biden will be absolutely better for Greece than Trump. Biden is a pro- Hellene and has been for years, He has been supported by and supportive of the Greek community in America for 40 years. He will be tough on Erdogan, and would restrict him, in my opinion, from letting the Turks violate Greek sovereignty.

Trump has been in bed with Erdogan from day one, they do deals together. Trump would never support Greece over Turkey if there was an incursion by the Turks to a Greek island. Biden is the only hope for Greece, and for that matter--to a united Europe.

Pericles Mazarakis: Biden's solution is a return to normalcy

A vote in favor of Biden is a choice of dignity and a return to normalcy, according to Pericles Mazarakis CEO of Trispan, a $ 600 million private equity firm in New York . "And regularity means that the next President will rule on behalf of the entire people and not on behalf of the 40-45% base that initially elected him. As Obama once said, there should be no blue and red States, only the United States ", said to ethnos.gr Mr. Mazarakis who for years was Chief Marketing Officer at Yum brands, internationally, (Pizza Hut, KFC, Taco Bell), seven years at McKinsey and Managing Director of 1,100 stores in Latin America and the Caribbean.

Biden has been a supporter of Greece for more than 40 years

According to him, for the past four years, American society has been experiencing a daily bombardment of mistakes, errors and exaggerations which have exhausted it, creating even greater problems in the crisis of the pandemic. The Greek private equity investor in the US reminds that Biden has been one of the strongest supporters of Greece for more than 40 years in the Senate and the White House. On the contrary, Trump was a strong ally of Erdogan and was unwilling to limit the influence that Turkey is trying to exert in the Aegean.

Commenting on the term of the current President, he emphasizes that he rules with the aim of dividing the population, gathering, mainly, his political audience, inciting violence and underestimating his opponents. Biden, on the other hand, believes that a victory will help the United States regain both its credibility and its sovereignty internationally, while pursuing policies that will make a difference for the United States and the world as a whole. "The United States must open up internationally, reject its ethnocentric position, and adopt policies such as the Paris Climate Change Agreement, the Multilateral Peace Initiative, and the Fair Trade Agreement." Indicative, as Mr. Mazarakis reports, is the Biden campaign, which focuses on an effort to move from an isolationist approach to regaining world domination, while at the core of his campaign at home is the sympathy that is so necessary in these turbulent days. .

The challenges of the new period

Regarding the challenges of the new period, the Greek CEO of Trispan, estimates that the new US president will face the next period with the fight against the pandemic and the preparation for the development of a vaccine that will help eliminate the disease.

However, as he says, the long-term bet is more philosophical and mainly concerns a battle between truth and facts against misinformation and fake news. "An essential pillar of our democratic society is to have an independent press that holds our leaders accountable for events and does not operate in a different reality where politicians fabricate events by lying to the world and hiding important information from the citizens. This is essentially an insult to our democracy (both in the US and abroad) and "The independence of the press has become even more necessary and urgent due to the proliferation of social media and cable television, which make fact-checking and accountability even more difficult for the police ."

Healing the wounds of division and polarization, rebuilding the institutions of democracy and mobilizing society around a common set of goals for the benefit of the country and not just one political party are the short-term issues Biden has to address, according to Biden. Mr. Mazaraki. In the medium term, however, he believes that the next President must find solutions to 3 additional problems, such as the growing inequality in the distribution of income between the "rich and the poor", in the financing of election campaigns which are not controlled and can affect the election results. but also in the better balance between policies that help business and at the same time protect the environment and working relationships.

Biden and the Republicans approve

One way characterizes choosing Biden and regular Professor of Materials Science at the University Drexel (Philadelphia, Pennsylvania Anthony Zavaliagkos. "The truth is that here we have not just make a choice between two candidates one is a bit better or worse than The current president is a living example not only politically but also socially and personally. Explained the professor from Volos.

Anthony Zavaliagkos

As Mr. Zavaliagos said, the extremism of the internal confrontation that the current president systematically promotes has created a conflict scene that inflates the problems and causes with threatening consequences not only for America itself but also for the whole world. "Biden is a moderate centrist with a successful tenure as a senator who systematically succeeded and bridged the differences between the two parties. He enjoys practical respect for his political opponents, and many moderate Republicans approve of his candidacy for the presidency.  "It simply came to our notice then.

Trump is a spoiled "child"

Comparing the two gladiators, Mr. Zavaliagos stressed that on the one hand, Biden has gone through great personal difficulties from his youth until recently, which usually has a positive effect on leading personalities. On the other hand we are dealing with a spoiled "child" who is accustomed to ignore the negative consequences of his actions and to act solely on the basis of personal interest. It sacrifices social cohesion, makes unbridled lying a way of communicating, challenges logic, distorts reality, and undermines any notion of dignity.

I cannot believe that expatriates who want to say that they love Greece can support it

As for the US attitude towards Greece and whether it will be shifted by a change in the presidency, he has no illusions, as he says, about the pro-Greek policy of America or any other state. Each state's foreign policy is largely determined by its own interests - it is not a matter of friendship. " However, the presence of the current American president on the international political scene is a source of instability. "The overestimation of his personal abilities and the egocentric approach to foreign policy issues have given Erdogan scope for action."

As Mr. Zavaliagos explained, Trump has opened a field in Syria, passively watched his dangerous games in Libya and, apart from some formal diplomatic moves, practically does not limit him to his aggressive and extremely risky confrontation with Greece.  He predicts that his re-election would dramatically increase the risk of adverse developments in the eastern Mediterranean region. "I cannot believe that expatriates who want to say that they love Greece can support him."

According to him, the problems that America is facing have become even more intense with the coronavirus.  Economic inequalities have escalated, social cohesion has been disrupted, little progress has been made on health insurance coverage under the Obama presidency, and America's position on the international stage has been undermined to an irreparable extent. "Even from a purely economic point of view, these issues are an obstacle to progress and any effort to resolve them is welcome. "At least I expect the current escalation of these problems for micropolitical and personal exploitation by the current president to stop," concluded Mr. Antonis Zavaliagos.
