Τsipras expresses concern over Greek-Turkish relations, prospect of new arms race
NewsroomMain opposition SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance leader Alexis Tsipras expressed his concern over developments in the Aegean and Eastern Mediterranean in an interview with Militaire.gr on Wednesday, where he criticised the government's handling of major foreign affairs issues, such as relations with Turkey.
"As concerned as I am at the possibility that last week's diplomatic defeat in Brussels will become a national defeat in 2021, I am equally concerned that we are on the cusp of a new frantic race for arms procurements that will use our defeats at diplomatic - and I hope not a national - level as their justification," he said.
Tsipras said that Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis must clarify whether Greece's national strategy has changed, underlining that "it would be a tragic mistake for someone to toy with [foreign policy] issues while giving priority to domestic political goals."
