Alt FM Anagnostopoulou: Greece-North Macedonia border crossings 'bridges' of friendship
NewsroomGreek Alternate Foreign Affairs Minister Sia Anagnostopoulou on Saturday told Athens-Macedonian News Agency (ANA) that the recent approval, in Greek parliament, of a law that will see the establishment of a border crossing station at Lemos in Prespes municipality, interconnecting Greece and North Macedonia, has "sparked the satisfaction of the representatives of the local community in Macedonia," which is "a clear indication the time has come to see the benefits of the Prespes Agreement in action," she added.
The Lemos-Markova Noga (in North Macedonia) crossing is a response to a 50-years-old demand, now realised by the Prespes Agreement, said Anagnostopoulou, and which will unleash the dynamic tendencies now observed in tourism and agriculture.
Moreover, this will also boost cultural exchanges between the two countries, "which were, up until recently, hurdled by short-sighted policies of introversion," she added.
The Lemos station, together with the crossing at Promachoi in Pella, which will connect with Maiden village in North Macedonia, "are the new 'bridges' of friendship and cooperation in the Balkans, built with solid materials and a plan for growth, prosperity, solidarity and peace in our neighborhood," Anagnostopoulou concluded.
