Newsroom

President of the Hellenic Republic Prokopis Pavlopoulos on Wednesday sent a message to Turkey that Greece is an advocate par excellence of peace and friendship among peoples and an unyielding guarantor of international and European legality, while speaking in the city of Sparti.

On the occasion of the 566th anniversary since the Fall of Constantinople and the sacrifice of the last Emperor of Byzantium Constantine Paleologos, Pavlopoulos attended a series of commemoration event in Mystras, hometown of the Dynasty of Paleologi, underlining the importance of defending the Byzantine civilisation, its culture, traditions, values and principles.

"We must defend this civilisation, especially today, within the framework of the major European family, against those that undermine the European edifice and its cultural roots. Based on the heritage of this civilisation we must send, urbi et orbi and especially to our neighbour Turkey, the message that we are advocates par excellence of peace and friendship among peoples".
