Greek stocks surge to new 12-month highs
NewsroomGreek stocks soared to new 12-month highs in the Athens Stock Exchange on Thursday, boosted by a positive climate prevailing in the market after last Sunday’s election results. The general index of the market jumped above the 800-point level for a net gain of 11.79 pct in the last four sessions, while capitalisation of the market is up 4.112 billion euros in the same period.
The index soared 3.19 pct to end at 818.33 points, its highest closing since May 11, 2018. The Large Cap index jumped 2.66 pct and the Mid Cap index ended 3.74 pct higher. Turnover was a heavy 130.959 million euros in volume of 71,244,722 shares.
Piraeus Bank (14.75 pct), PPC (14.72 pct), Ellaktor (6.22 pct), Alpha Bank (5.26 pct) and National Bank (4.91 pct) scored big gains among blue chip stocks, while Sarantis (-1.69 pct) and GEK Terna (1.56 pct) suffered losses. Among market sectors, Banks (6.61 pct) and Financial Services (5.34 pct) scored gains, while Commerce (1.11 pct) ended lower. National Bank and Alpha Bank were the most heavily traded securities of the day. Broadly, advancers led decliners by 78 to 31 with another 33 issues unchanged. Progressive (20 pct) and J&P Avax (16.10 pct) were top gainers, while Domiki Crete (11.18 pct) and Spyrou Farms (10 pct) were top losers.
