Nikos Pappas: "New Democracy's enemy is society's optimism and faith"

New Democracy's (ND) enemy is society's optimism and its faith that the economic results can now be felt by all, Minister of Digital Policy, Telecommunications and Media Nikos Pappas said on Friday in an interview with 'Sto Kokkino 105.5' radio station, adding that "ND's extremely anti-social programme cannot be implemented without a scared society."

He also stressed that New Democracy's strategy is to bring back the International Monetary Fund.

Pappas explained that although Greece's fiscal issues are now settled after decades, ND continues to make statements to the effect that "Greece cannot tap the markets" in order to have an excuse to invite the IMF to return.

On the contrary, he underlined that the Left proposes a social alliance of the lower and middle classes, on the basis of transparency and tax compliance within a fair tax system and a clear growth policy that includes everyone.

With regard to the public sector, the Minister said: "For us, the issue of employment in the public sector is not primarily the need for some to have income and work, but the need for society to enjoy the services provided by the State."
