Achtsioglou: SYRIZA's plan for 500,000 new jobs proved realistic
NewsroomThe hirings-layoffs balance in the period January-May 2019 has posted the highest performance since 2001 according to the ERGANI system, which has recorded 265,059 new jobs, the labour ministry said on Wednesday.
In the period January-May 2019, hirings reached 1,130,113 and departures came to 865,054.
Labour Minister Effie Achtsioglou made the following statement after the issue of the report. "This positive development confirms the goverment's position that the abolition of the sub-minimum wage and the increase of the minimum wage boost and support the growth of the Greek economy."
In our programme, Achtsioglou said, the wages' increase is both a measure that supports the fairer allocation of productive wealth and assists in the creation of a positive environment for growth and the creation of new job positions and this view is proved by the figures released today. In parallel, this positive development guarantees the realism of SYRIZA's plan for 500,000 new jobs in the next four years, with higher salaries and guaranteed labour rights.
