Tsakalotos: If SYRIZA wins the elections, there will be targeted tax relief

"If SYRIZA wins the elections, there will be targeted tax relief measures but also support for the economy with a growth policy and appropriate financing tools, provision of know-how and reinforcement of research, as well as more security and protection, better schools and hospitals," Finance Minister Euclid Tsakalotos said in an interview with the Athens-Macedonian News Agency (ANA) on Friday.

Tsakalotos underlined that in the elections of July 7, the Greeks will be making decisions about their lives and that this was even more true for the middle classes.

"With regard to the future, I believe we have presented a credible plan, as we can see from the growth strategy we have planned. But I think we may have failed in transmitting our plan to the world. And I think that in the current pre-election period we have taken important steps in this direction, by briefly presenting the main axes of our work so far, as well as our plan for the future," he underlined.

"Obviously there have been things we did not have time to do or which we did but have not yet become apparent to citizens. Thus, while significant steps have been taken to improve everyday life, such as the expansion of digital services in citizen-state contact, there are still delays in some issues, such as in the issuing of pensions ... These are fewer in comparison with the past and we have tabled our plan for the future but [the backlog] has not yet been eradicated," he added.
