Mitsotakis' pledges regarding tax reductions for everyone will not be met, Achtsioglou says
NewsroomMain opposition New Democracy leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis will not meet his promise to bring tax reductions for everyone, SYRIZA-Progressive Allianace spokesperson Effie Achtsioglou said on Monday.
In his interview with Kriti TV on Sunday, she pointed out, Mitsotakis said that there will be no tax reductions in 2019 and only referred to a reduction in VAT on restaurant/catering services in 2020, which the current government has already implemented. According to Mitsotakis, the rest of supposed tax cuts will happen over a four-year span, after the implementation of reforms and negotiations with Greece's EU partners and lenders, provided that they agree, she said.
"[What we have], therefore, are vague promises for tax relief but strong assurances of austerity," Achtsioglou added.
Citizens cannot afford the luxury of a return to the years of insecurity and surveillance, she underlined. "On July 7, we are voting about our lives," she concluded.
