PPC's lignite units are necessary for energy sufficiency, union maintains
NewsroomGENOP urged the government to take into account a report by the power transmission operator (ADMIE) setting out Greece's needs in energy
The Public Power Corporation's (PPC) lignite units are necessary for the country's energy sufficiency and security, the PPC staff's union GENOP said on Friday and should not be hastily sold.
GENOP urged the government to take into account a report by the power transmission operator (ADMIE) setting out Greece's needs in energy. It also said it also opposed the previous government's national plan on energy and climate that would restrict lignite-powered energy production to 17 percent by 2030.
The Ptolemaida, Amynteo and Agios Dimitrios units can be upgraded and incorporated in the system, and the government can continue to negotiate with the EU over the lignite units' usefulness, the union maintained.
