Nikos Dendias conveys Greece's concern over risen migrant flows from Turkey

Newsroom

Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias summoned Turkish Ambassador Burak Ozugergin to the ministry on Friday to express Greece's displeasure over the recent sharp rise in migrant flows from Turkey, diplomatic sources said.

The flows reached an apex on Thursday with the arrival of over 500 migrants on Lesvos in a single day.

Dendias reiterated the obligations Turkey has assumed in the framework of the Joint EU-Turkey Statement and the need to apply its provisions.

Ambassador Ozugergin said he will notify the authorities of his country, the sources said, and asserted that Turkey remains committed to the statement, while its related policy has remained the same.

Greek diplomatic sources also informed the EU of the flows, as the issue is primarily of European interest.
