Tsipras on climate change: Listen to young people, their future is at stake
NewsroomState leaders should respond to demands of young people for measures to protect the planet, main opposition SYRIZA leader Alexis Tsipras said on a Facebook post on Monday.
Speaking on the occasion of the UN Climate Action Summit in New York (Sept. 21-23), Tsipras said, "Leaders of all countries have the opportunity and ought to respond to the demands of young people, who protest globally to demand immediate measures for the planet's protection," Tsipras said.
"There are enough promises so far, and immediate measures and commitments are necessary," he continued. "Everyone needs to listen to the millions of students mobilizing internationally who demand that something is done for the climate crisis."
"Only young people have really understood what's at stake - it's not our future, it's theirs, our children's future. In brief, we need to apply the slogan of 'Change the system, not the climate'," Tsipras said.
