Petsas: We hope the ceasefire in Syria will put an end to Turkey's delinquent behaviour
NewsroomGovernment spokesperson Stelios Petsas expressed the hope that the ceasefire in Syria will put a halt to Turkey's delinquent behaviour, which has been condemned by all the EU member-states, while speaking to the public broadcaster ERT late on Thursday.
"We expect Turkey to respond to these pleas for a ceasefire," he added, and referred to Turkey's provocative stance toward Cyprus.
"We are in the pleasant position of [being able] to say that the EU Foreign Affairs Council approved a plan that includes the possibility of sanctions against individuals and enterprises that support Turkey in its illegal activities in Cyprus' Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ)," Petsas said.
On the migration issue, he noted that "it is not fair for some countries to enjoy all the advantages of the Schengen Treaty and not assume any of the responsibilities that arise from it .... Greece wants a framework where, if the increased flows of migrants and refugees from the East continue, [it] will meet with solidarity from the other countries of the EU, in actions and not just words," he clarified.
