Part of excessive surplus to be distributed to the vulnerable citizens, Petsas says
NewsroomA part of the excessive surplus will be distributed to the most vulnerable citizens and to people who were overtaxed, government spokesman Stelios Petsas said on Thursday in an interview with Skai.gr.
He added that the final decisions will be taken over the next days and the legislation will be probably incorporated in the tax bill.
The 2020 surplus target will be at 3.5 percent and the aim is to have it reduced as of 2021 in order to channel this money to tax and contribution reductions as well as social benefits.
Concerning the new social security contributions for free lancers, Petsas stressed that they allow those in the intermediate categories to pay less, which would be an incentive to declare their real incomes. He added that this will fill the coffers of the social security funds.
Concerning the Greek-Turkish relations, the government spokesman urged Ankara not to use the migrant issue for geo-strategic purposes, stating that Greece will not accept it. He also stressed that the government is trying to change the framework on migration in Europe, which was also one of the purposes of the prime minister's trip to Rome.
