Ragousis: Greece has entered a murky and extremely worrying time
Newsroom"Greece has entered a murky and extremely worrying time," SYRIZA MP for citizen protection issues Yiannis Ragousis said on Monday, replying to an announcement issued by Citizen Protection Minister Michalis Chrisochoidis.
"At a time when, with supposedly sincere intentions to investigate, the Greek Police headquarters had delivered to the National Ombudsman's national mechanism for investigating incidents of abuse of authority the videotapes and reports of police violence for priority investigation, the government itself proceeded, in - a politically and institutionally unacceptable - announcement by the citizen protection ministry on Sunday evening, to issue a report. It has already reached the conclusion that "nothing happened, that all videos, photos and testimonies about the events on December 6 are lies," said Ragousis.
"Undoubtedly, this is a most dangerous expression of government abuse of the rule of law and the constitutionally established independence of the Ombudsman. Mitsotakis' government insults our intelligence: citizens, parliament, parties and the media," he added.
Ragousis was referring to allegations regarding police handling of the demonstrations on December 6 to mark the anniversary since the murder of teenager Alexis Grigoropoulos, who was shot dead by a police officer in 2008.
