Newsroom

Industrial production fell 3.4 pct in February this year, with manufacturing production falling by 2.1 pct in the month, Hellenic Statistical Authority said on Thursday.

The statistics service, in a monthly report, said that the industrial production general index fell 3.4 pct in February compared with the same month last year, after an 1.6 pct increase recorded in the 2019/2018 period.

It attributed this development to the decline of 2.1 pct in the manufacturing index (tobacco production down 20.4 pct, clothing down 9.3 pct, leather production off 12.9 pct), a 10 pct fall in electricity production and an 1.1 pct decline in water production.

On the other hand, mining production rose 17.7 pct in February. In the first two months of 2020, the average industrial production index fell 2.2 pct compared with the same period in 2019, while the seasonally-adjusted index fell 3.6 pct in February from January 2020.
