Six coronavirus cases confirmed at Eleonas, Malakasa and Schisto

Six cases of the novel coronavirus have been confirmed on Tuesday at the refugee facilities in Eleonas, Malakasa and Schisto, which have all been put into lockdown since Monday by a joint decision of the Ministers of Migration & Asylum, Health, and Citizen Protection.

Three cases were detected at Schisto, two in Malakasa and one in Eleonas, where the lockdown is in effect until September 21.

According to measures in effect at these structures, only key members of staff have the right of entry, whereas informal educational activities, counseling services for psychosocial support and legal consultation are not being carried out, sources at the Migration Ministry told Athens-Macedonian News Agency (ANA-MPA).

Canned food will be distributed at these facilities by the International Organization for Migration (IOM).

Meanwhile, the Oinofita hotspot, where some 590 asylum seekers reside, is on lockdown until September 16, the Ritsona hotspot, where 2,923 asylum seekers reside is on lockdown until September 15.

There are currently 1,212 migrants living at Schisto and 3,050 at Malakasa.
