Greek FinMin unveils more debt relief measures to taxpayers
NewsroomGreek Finance Minister Christos Staikouras on Thursday unveiled a new package of measures - a safety net - for taxpayers with debt created during and after the lockdown. More specifically, the safety net framework envisages a new repayment settlement for current tax obligations in the period March-June 2020, the reviving of lost settlements for debtors hit by the pandemic who could not pay their debt during the March-September 2020 period and, thirdly, a 120-tranche debt settlement for loans carrying Greek state guarantees.
In a statement, the Greek FinMin said that since March, the coronavirus pandemic has tested the endurance of households and enterprises and noted that the government responded swiftly, methodically and efficiently to the need to support society, implementing a cohesive and dynamic plan to deal with the impact of the crisis, such as suspending tax payments, and is continuing offering debt relief measures.
