Mitsotakis: The landmark year 2021 an opportunity to form the country's future identity

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis on Wednesday attended the first presentation of the 14 institutions that will participate in the Forum "Greece in 2040", organized by the "Greece 2021" Committee and will take place next October, with the aim of mapping Greece's potential and prospects in twenty years.

The 14 entities, representing productive sectors and social groups, will assume the responsibility to identify the necessary interventions and useful initiatives required in the field in which they specialize, so that our country can meet the challenges of the future or claim a leading role. Each entity briefly presented the topics that will dominate the relevant working groups and the axes on which their work will move.

The Prime Minister called on the participants not to repeat, as he said, simply their views, thoughts and proposals or possibly trade unions' demands, which have often been submitted to public debate, but to contribute with insight to the drafting of a long-term plan for the future of the country.

He added that the emblematic year 2021, in addition to its historical character, is an opportunity to form the identity of the country in the future. "The celebrations for the 200th anniversary are not just an opportunity to reminisce about our glorious past and to evaluate our overall historical path, but we also have an obligation to define our future and we must see this on a long-term basis and not only on a short-term basis."

"I cannot imagine a better offer for the next generations," Mitsotakis pointed out, "than to think honestly about these new trends, but also about the very important moral and political dilemmas that these important developments will force us to face."
