EU spokesman, Schinas: Europe withstood despite the fearmongers' prophecies

"Europe stood on its feet and withstood despite the fearmongers' prophecies" said European Commission spokesman Margaritis Schinas in an interview with the Sunday edition of Ethnos newspaper.

The first success of Jean-Claude Juncker's commission, said Schinas, was that "he confronted all those that said 'leave the Greeks, it's not worth to invest in Greece, it is a lost cause".

Schinas said that Juncker persuaded the Greeks to show they are determined to face the causes of the crisis and not its consequences in order to restore their credibility.

The press representative of EU expressed the certainty that after Juncker and German Chancellor Angela Merkel's retirement, the next European leadership will be the generation of Erasmus "a generation of Europeans that has not experienced war or dictatorship and has no direct memory such kind of situations".

Finally, speaking on the next five years' challenges, he underlined the need "to learn from the lessons of the crisis, to keep the economy on a steady growth course, Europe to be able to create job positions and to pass from the refugee crisis management to a European cohesive migration policy and Europe to dominate by occupying the space in the foreign policy and in the international treaties that the US administration leaves free".
