Koumoutsakos visits refugees hotspots on Lesvos

Alternate Citizen Protection Minister responsible for Migration Giorgos Koumoutsakos is visiting on Friday the island of Lesvos.

Koumoutsakos' first stop was at Kara Tepe municipal refugee camp where he was toured by the director Stavros Myrogiannis in the presence of Mytilene mayor Stratis Kytelis and the regional governor of northern Aegean Kostas Moutzouris.

Later, the minister visited Moria hotspot and was briefed on the condition as well as the reception, recording and asylum-seeking procedures.

Koumoutsakos also paid a visit to a UNICEF hosting structure. The minister will meet with the Metropolitan of Mytilene Iakovos and afterwards he will take part in a meeting with local agencies at the police headquarters in Mytilene.

The number of asylum-seekers at Moria hotspot and in other structures on the island exceeds 10,000 while on Friday six dinghies carrying a total of 246 migrants and refugees have arrived on the island.
