Public transport strikes and work stoppages in Athens on Tuesday
NewsroomAthens buses, trolleys and metro line 1 (Piraeus to Kifissia) will come to a complete halt on Tuesday, due to 24-hour strikes declared by their labour unions against the government's draft omnibus development bill.
The unions are joining in 24-hour strike action announced by the civil servants union federation ADEDY and the Athens-Piraeus Labour Centres against the provisions of the bill on labour issues.
Commuters will find some relief via the capital's metro lines 1 and 2, as well as the tram system, however, where staff will only participate with work stoppages at the start and end of their shift. Metro trains will therefore be running between 9:00 and 21:00 and the tram will operate between 8:00 and 22:00.
Train users can expect to face further inconvenience on Thursday when the country's rail workers go on strike, including the Proastiakos suburban railway line serving the Athens airport.
