Mitarachis: The government has emergency plan for coronavirus cases in refugee facilities
NewsroomThe government has an emergency plan to deal with coronavirus cases, both in refugee and migrant accommodation facilities and in local communities, Migration and Asylum Minister Notis Mitarachis said on Wednesday in parliament, in reply to a question from main opposition SYRIZA MP Sia Anagnostopoulou.
According to Mitarachisa, in the 38 facilities around the country where some 70,000 asylum seekers live, there are 28 coronavirus cases in total, while there have been no deaths. As he noted, of the cases, five were found in Malakasa and the rest in Ritsona. Mitarachi also spoke about the success of recent measures against the "asymmetric" Turkish threat, noting that in recent days on the islands, migration/refugee flows are "down to almost zero".
