Movement for Change (KINAL) leader Fofi Gennimata on Thursday met with the mayor of western Lesvos Taxiarchis Verros at her office in parliament and was briefed on residents' objections and mobilisation in relation to the creation of a closed-type structure for migrants and refugees on the island.
After the meeting, Gennimata accused ruling New Democracy and main opposition SYRIZA of turning Greece into a repository of souls. "A European problem is turning into a national tragedy. The government's chaos intensifies the crisis. The government is adding fuel to the fire with its authoritarianism and with the requisitions," she said.
The problem, she said, calls for radical solutions such as with the immediate decongestion of the islands, with the help of Frontex's key role in the protection of the borders, and the full abolition of the Dublin regulation, then the allocation of asylum seekers to all EU states.
