"The government could have implemented a series of programmes via ΝSRF to address the consequences of the pandemic without burdening the state's coffers," SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance deputy responsible for development and investments Alexis Charitsis said on Monday speaking to radio "Sto Kokkino", accusing the government that it did not do it.
"By taking advantage of the unprecedented flexibility of the NSRF and without the usual bureaucracy, it could have hired temporary staff in education, health and transport and take protection measures for schools, create ICUs and buy buses and trains."
He said that the government should explain why it did not take advantage of these funds all these months that in combination "with SYRIZA's safety cushion and the lifting of the fiscal restrictions, a totally different landscape in term of the pandemic would be formed.
Charitsis said that "in contrast with other countries that implement strong programmes for the support of the enterprises, the workers and the vulnerable social groups, the govenrment's inertia intensifies the recession" and referred to "huge social consequences" and "climate of insecurity for the enterprises as well as "galloping unemployment".
