Main opposition New Democracy leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis is not only avoiding a direct confrontation with Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras but has resorted to "announcing" measures that have already been passed and put into effect by the present government, State Minister Dimitris Tzanakopoulos said on Thursday, in an interview with 'Sto Kokkino' radio station.
Among such measures, according to the minister, were a reduction of VAT on restaurant and catering services and the 120-installment debt settlements for businesses, while Mitsotakis had also studiously avoided talking about tax relief in 2020.
"Despite Mr Mitsotakis' apparent certainty that he will win the elections, he seems to be very worried", Tzanakopoulos said, noting that "for this reason, he is avoiding a debate with Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras, as well as all the other leaders".
"Mitsotakis' programme is nothing other than a repetition of the measures promoted and imposed by the International Monetary Fund from 2010 until a few months ago", he added.
This serves to highlight the superiority of SYRIZA's programme in terms of guaranteeing higher growth rates, protecting labour rights and ensuring increased wages, as well as fairer taxation, Tzanakopoulos said.
