Mitsotakis: No doubts that Greece has exited the crisis by end of year

"I don't intend to lose a single day," main opposition New Democracy President Kyriakos Mitsotakis said in an interview with the Sunday edition of "Kathimerini", stating his readiness to begin implementing a "detailed plan for the governance of the country" the day after the elections.

Mitsotakis said his aim was that, by the end of the year, there will be no doubt that Greece has permanently exited the crisis and for this to be reflected in the cost of borrowing and better credit ratings for the country, as well as the first reaction of the economy to the changes.

According to ND's leader, the architecture of his new government, if elected, is already decided and the legislation to be passed in the coming year already prepared.

"The people will decide whether they will give us a chance to implement our programme and change things...We cannot say that we weren't ready, that we did not know. Obviously there will be surprises but we expect them," he said.

"Today the country appears ready for something on these lines," Mitsotakis said, referring to ND's change of image, with SYRIZA trailing 10 points behind in the polls and ND well placed to win a single-party majority, while pointing out that none of these things had been easy and should not be taken for granted.

Regarding the Public Power Corporation (PPC), he said the present government had scrapped ND's plan for a 'small PPC' and ended up by destroying the company. "ND will save the PPC," he said but also investigate the management of the Hellenic Corporation of Assets and Participations and of the PPC for their role "in the financial destruction of the largest company in the country" and the losses for Greek tax-payers.

In the interview, Mitsotakis also talked about ND's plans for "Project 2021" to mark the 200th anniversary since the 1821 Greek revolution and the foundation of the modern Greek state, saying this will be a celebration for all Greeks, at home and abroad.
