Athens police uncover 1.8 million euros in counterfeit banknotes

A workshop for counterfeit banknotes was dismantled on Thursday by Athens police, who uncovered thousands of pages of banknote paper in sizes of 50, 100, 200 and 500 euro notes, as well as money counters, counterfeit detectors and safe boxes.
According to police, the value of counterfeit notes amounts to 1.8 million euros.
The workshop was uncovered following the arrest of two foreign nationals at the city of Patras on October 1, who approached a businessman and asked him for 50,000 euros in 50-euro banknotes, on the pretext of returning 110,000 euros for the favor.
